First try Yankee Candle Wax Tarts
So after my post about the first time I tried Yankee Candle votives. I decided to try Yankee Candle wax tarts because I heard that they have a stronger scent throw then votives. Only one way to find out if that’s true.
Sadly there wasn’t any online store that carried all of the scents I’m looking to try, because some of them are limited editions. So I decided to go with the one that had the most in stock which was YankeeCandleStore. The Yankee Candle wax tarts cost € 1.99 each.
Ordered – friday 23 oct | Shipped – friday 23 oct | Received – monday 26 oct
Shipping cost € 5.50 which is a little higher then the other stores. Everything was packaged in a thick envelope with cardboard in it to keep the wax safe. YankeeCandleStore also has a physical store in Den Haag called My Store which I would love to visit one day. They even included a small Yankee Candle tea light. Sadly they didn’t tell me what scent it is.
These descriptions of the scents are on cold sniff because I’m not gonna burn them all in one day. Sometimes the smell changes when you burn them. My favourite on cold sniff is Strawberry Buttercream, it just smells so good even though Vanilla Lime is a close second.
- Angels Wings
This smells so different then all of the other scents that I bought. It smells really fresh and clean like a freshly cleaned house with flowers on the table.
- Black Coconut
This smells totally different than what I expected. It doesn’t smell like coconut at all when it isn’t burned. It smells very rich and luxurious, not your typical coconut scent that you get in coconut body lotion.
- Christmas Cookie
This smells really yummy like actual christmas cookies. It reminds me a little of snowflake cookie but with a less sugary scent.
- Strawberry Buttercream
Smells like strawberries and whipped cream really yummy.
- Summer Scoop
Smells like strawberry ice cream. It’s a great summer smell.
- Vanilla Lime
Smells like lemon slush puppy, or a summery Iced drink with lemon in it. I can’t really smell the vanilla.
- Snowflake cookie
Smells like icing that you put on freshly baked cookies.
Wax Tart vs Votive
I ordered Snowflake Cookie again. I tried this scent in a votive before but since the scent wasn’t that noticeable so I decided to give it another try in a wax tart. Here are the results after burning both the votive and wax tart in my bedroom which is about 3 by 3 meter.
Votive | I had to really put my nose above it to even pick up the scent while burning it in my bedroom.
Wax tart | I smelled it almost instantly and I could smell it easily from the other corner of the room.
Disclaimer: For some people the votive does have a good scent throw so I might just have had a bad one.
Yankee Candle wax tart burning tips
Here are some tips I picked up while researching.
- You can cut the wax tart in 4 pieces so you can enjoy it longer and change scents more often, just cut a small piece off.
- To remove the wax tart from your burner put it in the freezer for 5 minutes or put a little hot water on it and let it sit a few minutes. After that you can easily pop it out with a knife.
- A whole wax tart has an average life span of 8 hours. After that it might start smelling funny or the scent will just be gone.
Wax Burner & Plate
The wax burner I use I recently purchased from DecoPlein XXL for € 7,95. It is from the ScentChips brand, a brand that sells a different kind of wax chips. You don’t need an actual Yankee Candle burner, just a cheap one is fine. Some stores in the Netherlands where you can pick up wax burners are Xenos and Action.
The plate that I put under my burner is from Action. It was only € 1,99. You don’t actually need a plate under it but I like it because I had some trouble with an old wax burner that the tea light fell out of while trying to blow it out so better safe then sorry.
